Hello! |
 |
 |
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who made their cuppa count in 2009!
Throughout May 2009, thousands of people came together for one of the nation’s favourite fundraisers in homes businesses, community groups and organisations to take part in Australia's Biggest Morning Tea.
2009 was the 16th birthday of Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, and was also one of our most successful years to date, raising an incredible $1.895 million dollars towards the fight against cancer in Queensland.
Thanks to your efforts, Cancer Council will be able to continue the fight against cancer, by funding research, providing support services to patients and their families and helping to raise awareness of this disease. This year alone we were able to invest over $12 million in cancer research, and this could not have been done without your support.
We sincerely hope you will join us once again this May for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea 2010. To register your interest now go to www.biggestmorningtea.com.au
We invite you once again to put the kettle on, and start planning your event!
Warmest wishes,
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea Team |

Karumba Downs Ups the Cuppa Count!
|
 |
 |
The small town of Karumba raised more than $18,000 at their Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea in 2009, making it the highest fundraising morning tea in Queensland this year! Morning tea organiser for Karumba Downs Progress Association, Judy Walters, said 240 people attended the morning tea.
“This could not have been possible without the support of our three holiday parks and donations from local businesses in Karumba, Normanton, the Tablelands, Mt Isa, Cairns and even Townsville.
“Every year we have a theme, and this year it was retro - lots of people dressed up on the day,” she said.
“The community and the tourists have just shown amazing support for this very important cause. “These people have opened up their hearts and I’ve just been overwhelmed with it all.”
Local ladies raised funds giving haircuts for the cause, mock horse races with locals on hobbie horses, auctions, and raffles all made the event a success.
Having been isolated by flooding for almost three months earlier this year, the community poured more than $8,000 into the Victorian bushfire appeals. To then give more than $18,000 to the morning tea shows such amazing community spirit.

Country and Westerm was the theme for Barb Hegarty and Helen Crew's Australia's Biggest Morning Tea. The friends from the Sunshine Coast, held their event at the Bli Bli Hall on May 27 with over 100 people in attendance. There were raffles, auction, craft and jewellery stalls, and delicious food served while a great two piece band ‘Chad and Dave’ played.
Prizes were awarded for the best shirt and guests donned cowboy hats (the hosts Helen and Barb are pictured above middle and right)
The event was the largest fundraiser for the Sunshine Coast Region raising almost $6000.
Both ladies have had their experiences with cancer, including the loss of friends, however a number of survivors attend their event each year enforcing the importance of raising funds for cancer research and treatment.

Australia's Biggest Morning Tea at the Brunners!
|
 |
 |
Last year Carolyn and Scott Brunner held a Biggest Morning Tea Family Fun Day for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, deciding to hold something more for the families to visit. 'Living in the country it was a nice way for families to spend their Sunday' Carolyn said.
At their home in Cambooya, Toowoomba, they had face painting, a sausage sizzle, raffles, scrapbooking and Tupperware stalls. Caroline cut her long hair off, and another friend cut his locks too and it was a $5 entry fee for a cuppa and cake.
“This year it had been 25 years since I lost my mother to Leukemia and my father lost his cancer battle 5 years ago, so it was important to me to do something drastic to raise money. Together we raised $1007.00. We had a great time, and next years planning is in the works”
“The plan is bigger each year. I am feeling positive about it getting bigger each year... After all it is all about raising money for one of the most important issues in our lives”
